About Us

Huddersfield Community First is a community organisation which was officially launched in November 2018. The organisation was founded on a mission ‘to create a better brighter community’.

Our Vision

Our work focuses on providing services and creating opportunities to make positive changes within the community. We aim to do that by:

  • providing social, educational and recreational services and facilities for both young people and adults;
  • building bridges between communities through interfaith and community projects; and
  • undertaking outreach work to help and encourage disadvantaged members of the community.

Background

Since 2018 over 5000 members of the local community have accessed and benefitted from our services and projects.

The organisation is run by Mohammed Abubakar with the support of an experienced management team. Mohammed Abubakar is an Imam and religious leader within the Muslim community. Mohammed has immense experience in management roles, youth work and diversity and inclusion training. Mohammed is also a presenter for British Muslim TV, a UK-based television channel. Mohammed has always believed in unity, building bridges, community cohesion and helping others.

HDC First’s vision is to reach out and work with multi-faith and organisational groups to achieve a cohesive community. What I find most welcoming is the work they particularly do with the youth, helping them to create a better future for themselves, and this proved immeasurable with the outcomes achieved with the first youth club located within the Mosque Mohammed was employed at.
