What We Do

At Huddersfield Community First we offer services in the following four areas:

Education

We offer numerous educational and professional development courses and programmes throughout the year for adults and young people.

Welfare

Over the years homelessness and poverty has increased and has affected the community dramatically. To support the disadvantaged we provide food packs and hot meals.

Interfaith

We believe in unity and having respect for one another despite our differences. With this intent we organise events to build bridges between communities.

Youth Services

We are proud to have strong youth dedicated events and programmes to help young people learn essential life skills.

Working to relieve poverty, advance education, promote harmony, and support young people.

Last week, Huddersfield Community First, in partnership with Huddersfield Council of Mosques, hosted Flipping the Script on #Islamophobia at #Huddersfield Town Hall — and what an evening it was.

With over 50 people in attendance, we heard powerful contributions from across our town and beyond. Harpreet Uppal MP, Dr Abid Hussain, Revd Rachel Firth, Cllr Amanda Pinnock, Acting Inspector Khalid, Dr Shamim Miah, Dr Gerard Charles and Hamzah Naveed from MEND - Muslim Engagement & Development. Each brought a different perspective to the theme of challenging assumptions and reshaping the narrative around British Muslims.

Dr Abid reflected on the long-standing contributions of Muslims in Britain, while Acting Inspector Khalid shared a moving family story about his grandfather’s service in the world wars, a reminder of a history too often overlooked.

We were also honoured to host the Kiswa Arts And Culture Gallery exhibition, giving attendees a rare chance to see rare artifacts from the Ka‘bah and Madinah here in Huddersfield. It added a reflective and spiritual depth to the evening.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, spoke, volunteered, or supported the event. Nights like this show what our town is capable of when communities come together to listen, learn and reframe the conversation.

Let’s keep flipping the script and keep building a Huddersfield where every community stands together, supports one another, and refuses to let prejudice divide us.

A huge thank you to Kirklees Council and the councillors from the following wards: Ashbrow, Crosland Moor & Netherton, Dalton, Greenhead and Newsome for their support.
